​Ronald J. Angelone passed away on Friday July 12, 2024 in Sarasota Florida. Born to Henry and Barbara Angelone, second oldest of five children (Robert, Donna, Barbara and Rodger ).
A veteran of the United States Army, Ron served with distinction in the 101st Airborne during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged. 
Ron's educational background included a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies and a Master's degree in Human Relations and Community Affairs from American International College, as well as a Bachelor's degree from Roger Williams College. 
Ron's professional life was marked by significant achievements in the corrections field. He began his career in Rhode Island, working with the Department of Children, Youth, and Families as a Youth Home/Life Supervisor. He later supervised vocational training at the Dayton Human Rehabilitation Center in Ohio, which laid the foundation for his extensive career in corrections. 
His notable roles included serving as the Superintendent of the Academy for Staff Development in the Virginia Department of Corrections, Warden of the Staunton Correctional Center and the Marion Correctional Treatment Center. He served Governor Bob Miller as Director of the Nevada Department of Prisons. He was appointed by the Governor of Virginia George Allen, and then again by Governor James Gilmore, as Director of the Department of Corrections, overseeing all institutions and probation services in the state. 
Ron also contributed significantly to the field through his work as a Managing Partner for R&L Solutions LLC and as CEO of Correctional Solutions Inc., where he specialized in business development, custody operations, and offender program services. 
Throughout his career, Ron was actively involved in various associations, including serving as President of the Association of State Correctional Administrators and Chairman of the Standards Committee for the American Correctional Association. 
Ron was the second President of the Virginia Correctional Association, serving from 1981 to 1982. He was always supportive of the VCA during his term as the Director of Corrections in Virginia.
Ron and Rita retired from Richmond VA to sunny Sarasota, Florida to enjoy the sun and year round golf. Ron was very active in his church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Ron, is survived by his beloved wife, Rita, and their children, Kristina Angelone and Tiffani Nasutovicz. He also leaves behind his dear sisters, Donna J. Angelone Kerkhoff, and Barbara Poulin-Angelone, who will continue to carry his memory in their hearts. Ron Angelone's legacy is one of professional excellence, ethical leadership, and a profound dedication to his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him and whose lives he touched. His family finds comfort in knowing that he has left a lasting impact through his work and the love he shared with them. Services will be held July 27th, 11:30 am, at St. Patrick Church, 7900 Bee Ridge Rd, Sarasota FL, 34241.

James R. Camache, Jr., of Richmond, passed away July 18, 2021. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Rebecca “Becky” S. Camache; daughters, Kathy A. Camache of Forest, Va. and Susan C. Darnell and husband, Scot of Virginia Beach; grandsons, Riley Johnson (Hannah) of Forest, Va., Isaac Johnson (deceased), Cole Darnell and James Darnell of Virginia Beach.   A celebration of Jim’s life was held on Saturday, July 24 at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home in Richmond.

Jim retired from the Virginia Department of Corrections after several decades of public service. At the time of his retirement, he was the Deputy Director overseeing probation, parole, and community corrections. Jim was highly respected and admired nationally for his knowledge and expertise in probation, parole, and community corrections.

The Officers and Board of Directors of the Virginia Correctional Association wish to express sympathy for the family and staff of Hampton Sheriff's Office on the death of Sheriff B.J. Roberts who died at his home on December 26th, 2020.
Sheriff Roberts was the first African American to serve as President of the National Sheriffs Association.

Helen Steele, a longtime employee of Virginia Department of Corrections attached to the Inspector General's Office has passed on.  Her funeral Mass will be held Friday, November 13th.  See the link below for further information.​

Virginia Correctional Association mourns the loss of Warden Earl Barksdale, 66, of the Baskerville Correctional Center in Mecklenburg County, who passed away on September 9, 2020 of COVID-related causes.

IN MEMORIAM
PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — A correctional officer at Hampton Roads Regional Jail died on Thursday after family members say he contracted COVID-19 from work.

Superintendent Col. Christopher Walz tells 10 On Your Side Robert Sunukjian, 48, was a valued and dedicated member of the Hampton Roads Regional Jail family with over sixteen and a half years of service. 

“We are grateful for his years of service and he will be sorely missed,” added Walz. “We send our heartfelt condolences to his family during this difficult time.”

Although he was not able to discuss specifics on the passing on Sunukjian, an obituary says he passed away after “contracting COVID-19 during an outbreak at work.”

He is survived by his wife of eighteen years. 

If you would like to make a donation in Roberts honor, the family is asking donations may be made to the Fraternal Order of Police or your local Humane Society.
