VCA was established in 1979 as a state chapter affiliate of the American Correctional Association (ACA). ACA, a professional association dedicated to the improvement of corrections and the training and development of correctional professionals, was founded in 1870.
For more than 140 years, ACA has been on the forefront of exerting a positive influence on national correctional policy. ACA provides its members with educational materials, college and CEU credits with courses, training, seminars, publications, biannual conferences, accreditation services, and a variety of other networking and career opportunities. The ACA is a large and diverse organization with various methods of association. More information on the Dual Chapter framework and other affiliation methods can be found in the Chapters and Affiliates section of the ACA website.
